A Community that Sings Together
The first notes of Shalom Aleichem fill the sanctuary on Friday evening. Voices join in—some confident, some tentative, all welcome. This is how we gather at Temple Concord: through z’mirot, niggunim, and the melodies that lift our tefilot to something greater.
Music is one of the heartbeats of our community. Whether it’s a Yiddishe mama song that stirs memories, a haunting melody from the Yamim Noraim, or a joyful Israeli tune that makes your feet want to dance, our musical tradition brings people together, deepens prayer, and strengthens our sense of Jewish connection.
Our Musical Leadership
Cantor Kari Siegel Eglash brings warmth, spiritual presence, and a rich musical palette to Temple Concord. She blends contemporary Jewish music with beloved classics, creating services where everyone feels welcome to join in song. Don’t worry about reading music or knowing all the words—Cantor Eglash teaches melodies on the spot, and you’ll find yourself humming along by the second verse.
Shabbat Music at Temple Concord
Our Kabbalat Shabbat services weave together traditional nusach, modern Reform melodies, and contemporary Jewish and Israeli compositions. You’ll hear everything from ancient Mi Chamocha chants to Debbie Friedman’s L’chi Lach, from Carlebach niggunim to contemporary settings of Oseh Shalom.
The result is t’filah that feels uplifting, accessible, and deeply rooted.
Never been to a musical Shabbat? A Friday evening service is a perfect place to start. Cantor Eglash’s leadership encourages full participation—no experience required, just enthusiasm.
Choir & Community Music
Temple Concord has a proud history of communal singing that thrives today through our two choirs. The Knesset Shalom Singers (adult choir) and Shirat Shalom Singers (youth choir) both help lead services every month to six weeks, adding depth and harmony to our worship. Congregants also join Cantor Eglash for harmonies, layning the Torah with traditional trope, and musical moments during chagim and life-cycle celebrations.
Our Temple band, the Shabbos Klezmorim, is directed by Joe Eglash, a leading figure in the Reform music industry. The band contributes their musical energy to special services—you’ll hear them bring joy to Chanukah Shabbat and Simchat Torah with traditional klezmer sounds and spirited melodies.
Love to sing or play? We’d welcome your voice or your instrument in our musical community.
High Holiday Music
During Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Cantor Eglash guides the congregation through a musical journey that balances tradition with contemporary expression. A congregant plays a haunting Kol Nidre on strings, and our professional High Holiday choir is supported by the Knesset Shalom Singers, creating layers of sound that fill the sanctuary. From the stirring Avinu Malkeinu to meditative settings of Kol Nidre, the thoughtful selection of melodies helps create an atmosphere that is reflective, powerful, and emotionally resonant—music that stays with you long after the final tekiah gedolah.
Music for All Ages
Each of our religious school classes helps lead services once throughout the year, giving students the opportunity to share their voices and musical learning with the congregation. These student-led moments create pride, confidence, and lasting memories for our young members and their families.
Whether you’re a lifelong singer or someone who hums in the shower, there’s a place for your voice here. Come experience what happens when a community sings together.
